Brian Park is the Founder & CEO of Nabee Socks, the most awesome compression sock company in the world. After 3 years of nursing in a trauma ICU, he decided it was time for a change and began his passionate quest for financial freedom.
Brian’s search led him to discover the Lean Startup Method and small business automation, both of which have allowed him to manage Nabee Socks with little time or monetary investment. He used a Kickstarter campaign in order to fund his fledgling business, and he raised $13,000 from that very successful campaign, all for a personal investment of around $200.
Brian has utilized his financial freedom to become a certified hypnotherapist, hospital magician, backpack around the world, and spend more time with all the amazing people in his life. He now resides in Chicago, where the people are great and the weather is awful.
Compression socks are evidence-based, and Nabee Socks are FDA-registered. Nabee Socks use a form of compression that is more robust at the ankle, gradually decreasing towards the knee. Venous return and other health benefits are very well-documented in a large amount of medical literature.
In designing his socks and finding the right manufacturer, Brian used AliBaba.com to find the right manufacturer. Brian shared with us that shipping is one of the most challenging aspects of the product development process, and he now has a company that’s almost completely automated. He has great confidence in the FulfillRite, the company that stocks his socks and seamlessly fulfills every order.
According to Brian (and Keith and Kevin wholeheartedly agree), if you have an idea for a product, first identify your potential market and a problem that your product can solve for that market. You need a good solution to a clear problem. This isn’t necessarily the most fun part of the process, but it’s a crucial place to begin.
In the second year of his business, Brian traveled around the world, volunteered with refugees on the Syrian border, met hundreds of amazing people, and learned how to do one-on-one magic with hospitalized children. He also became a Certified Hypnotherapist. Self-care, meditation, and community are very important to him, and volunteering brings meaning and the ability to care for others to his life.
Brian’s favorite quote is: “Time is a gift, given to you, given to give you the time you need, the time you need to have the time of your life.” – Norton Juster, The Phantom Tollbooth
