In this awesome episode of RNFM Radio, Kevin, Elizabeth, and Keith enjoy a wide-ranging conversation with Kati, and we wax poetic about her book, her online presence, and her mission to educate, inspire, and motivate nurses worldwide. Screenshot 2015-06-25 16.55.31

Kati began this journey by creating a Tumblr account, as well as the “Nurse Eyeroll” platform and website, and a presence on various social media platforms.

While her new book covers specific subjects for new nurses (especially those not covered in nursing school), like:

  • How to call a doctor
  • How to prepare for report
  • How to manage your time
  • Taking the NCLEX

From “Becoming Nursey“:

I thought that shift was going to break me. And it did. It broke me in a grace-filled way. It broke me in a ‘I’m so thankful for all that I have’ way. It broke me in a way that made me more compassionate and empathetic, and present both physically and emotionally for my family, friends, and patients. Being broken for your patients allows you to enter into what they’re experiencing. It enables you to really be present for them, and therefore really care for them in the way they need it most.”

Katie states that, over the years, she has received the same questions from nursing students over and over; thus, the book responds to those questions and more. She wants to answer the questions, and help those nurses feel better at the same time.

We also spoke about how Kati approaches her life, which is just like she approaches a shift: planning well and being intentional with both her work time and her time off.

Kati now works prn on the neuro floor, and also serves on various committees. She’s a 21st-century Renaissance woman and nurse!
