On episode 176 of RNFM Radio, Keith, Kevin, and Elizabeth speak with Carolyn Jones and Lisa Frank, the director and producer of the groundbreaking and moving film, “The American Nurse“, which was released nationwide in 2014. Now, in 2015, Carolyn and Lisa have joined forces once again in an effort to follow up on the ways in which “The American Nurse” project impacted them during the making of the film and the photographing of the subjects for the book of the same title.
Their new project, “Dying in America“, launched on November 1st 2015 with a fascinating and informative website. The “About” page on “Dying in America: Nurses Leading the Conversation“, says it all:
Dying in America is a multimedia documentary project that examines the dying experience through the eyes of nurses, directed by award-winning filmmaker Carolyn Jones.
We believe that by exploring the death and dying process with those who navigate its waters daily, we can better prepare ourselves and our loved ones when we are faced with the difficult decisions that come with the end of life. Perhaps by embracing and normalizing the conversation about death and dying, we can lead a more fulfilling life all the way to our last breaths.
It is our greatest hope that this website will offer some direction, comfort, and community for anyone facing these difficult times. Our Topics page seeks to help you address specific issues you may be grappling with, or questions you may have. Our Tools page seeks to help you discern, document and discuss your end of life wishes through a series of document-based steps.
We will never defeat death, but we can prepare ourselves and our loved ones for what lies ahead and make the experience of dying as rich and as meaningful as the experience of living.
